JOU, when the mountain becomes home.

Ferrino presents a new documentary: Seven friends, four days of isolation, and the winter of the Picos de Europa

Ferrino presents JOU, a documentary that tells the story of a high-mountain experience lived in its most authentic form: seven friends, four days of total isolation, and one of the most iconic massifs of the Iberian Peninsula, the Picos de Europa, fully immersed in winter.

The film follows the adventure of a group of skiers and mountaineers who choose to step away from the fast-paced rhythm of traditional ski touring—“up and down in a single day”—to experience the mountains in a different way: building a small base camp in the heart of the massif, staying there for several days, and setting out from that point to explore couloirs, slopes, and icy summits.

The Picos de Europa are a fascinating yet demanding landscape, where winter imposes its own rules. In this setting, JOU documents four days of continuous activity between skiing, mountaineering, and life at altitude. With the technical support of Ferrino, the group was able to face the environment with the equipment necessary to live and move safely in the mountains, focusing on shared decisions and the collective experience.

At the heart of the project is not only the action in the mountains, but also life at base camp. The camp is set up inside a jou, the characteristic karst depressions typical of the Picos de Europa, transforming it into a small temporary refuge. It is here, among tents and down sleeping bags, that the friends manage fatigue, plan their routes according to unpredictable weather, and strengthen the bonds that are forged when each person’s safety depends entirely on the others.

JOU therefore becomes not only a story about skiing and mountaineering, but also a portrait of friendship, mutual trust, and the deep connection with winter mountains.
