Ferrino is a partner and technical sponsor of the important winter expedition on K2 organized by the Polish Mountaineering Federation and supported by the Polish Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

On February 17, 1980, Krzysztof Wielicki and Leszek Cichy reached the summit of Everest. They were the first climbers ever to breach the summit of an eight-thousander in winter. They were Polish and had a great desire to write their name in the history of exploration. With little money and an extraordinary determination, they began a period of extraordinary climbs. During the 1980s, Krzysztof, who received the Piolet d'Or for lifetime achievement in 2019, and his companions managed to climb 7 eight-thousanders in the cold season. Winter represented a new way of understanding the very high altitude. An exhausting challenge that, for many years, only Poles dedicated themselves to.
In the 2000s, other mountaineers will also apply themselves, including the Italian Simone Moro who today is the climber with the greatest number of first ascents in the cold season, but the Poles will never lose their role as winter protagonists on the highest mountains on the planet.

The K2
Having climbed most of the Eight-thousanders, the challenge remained open for years on two fearsome, yet fascinating, mountains: Nanga Parbat and K2. Then, on February 26, 2016, Alex Txikon, Ali Sadpara and Simone Moro violated the ninth mountain on Earth, leaving the record for the last great feat of winter to K2. For decades it has withstood the assaults of the best mountaineers in the world, real sieges in the coldest moments of the year. Massive expeditions intent on violating it to win the last ascent of classic Himalayanism. The Poles have tried and are still trying, with their national expedition led by Krzysztof Wielicki. They are the ones with the most experience and also the most determined to achieve the goal. If they succeeded, it would be the most romantic of conclusions for a story of dreamers, as these guys have shown themselves right from the start.
Their last attempt dates back to the winter of 2017-2018, they will try again during the 2020-2021 season.
