On the Trails of the Glaciers is an initiative that analyzes the effects of climate change by combining photographic comparison and scientific research. Born from an idea by the Roman photographer Fabiano Ventura, the project is organized in expeditions directed to the most important mountain glaciers on the planet with the aim of carrying out glaciological analyses and photographing the glacial masses from the same points where, at the end of the nineteenth century, some of the most important photographer-explorers of the period positioned their cameras.

The purpose of the activity is to raise public awareness on the effects of climate change through a very strong communication method such as photographic comparison. The hope is that this can help in understanding the need to safeguard natural resources for future generations.

Goals

Gain insights into recent glacial dynamics and glacier health.
Communicating the importance of sustainable development.
Communicating the importance of biodiversity.
Promote the historical-cultural heritage represented by photographic archives.
