Scilla Tonetti, second place at the Tor des Géants®, talks about her race, her journey, which began on Sunday and ended on Thursday along the 330 km route.
We meet her together with Anna Ferrino, CEO of the company with which Scilla has been running for years, and with which the passion was born that in the last two years led to the formation of a team of female athletes, the Ferrino Women Team (#FerrinoWomenTeam), a real “pink touch” at the Tor des Géants®.
“I still can’t believe it,” says Scilla, born in 1975 in Varese, “because this result has stunned me. It was a Tor marked by a slow, reasoned start, a lot of effort and planning, sleeping just over an hour and a half during the entire race. The assistance of my sister and my friend was essential, but also the support of the entire team, the union with my travel companions Alice Modignani Fasoli, Luisa Balsamo, Sonia Sanchez and Noelia Herrera. And let’s not forget Cristian Caselli, the only man in the Ferrino trail runners team.”
A ride lasting almost 96 hours, that of Scilla Tonetti, spent between sleepless nights and moments of extreme difficulty, chasing the head of the Tor, where the effort was often rewarded by the beauty of the dawn and the infinite landscapes at high altitude.
“It is truly an honor,” says Anna Ferrino, “to see today the results of a project that began last year quietly, as a challenge for our brand and for the girls themselves. Getting on the women's podium means realizing what we have always believed in, that is, the fact that even tough, very tough challenges, like those of the Tor, can be successfully experienced by women who embody in the races the qualities typical of their gender, that is, patience, resistance, self-denial and perseverance. Even the gesture of friendship towards Jamie Aarons tells the spirit of the project well, because crossing the finish line hand in hand with your opponent is a great gesture of female fair play.”
An ambitious project, that of the Ferrino Women Team, which is preparing to expand and become increasingly international, strengthening the excellence already present and aiming for the best for the tenth anniversary of the Tor.
“I only realized now – comments Scilla – that in front of the second place there is the first… And who knows, next year I intend to improve!”.
