Ferrino and Fabiano Ventura on the trail of glaciers. Ten years of photographic-scientific expeditions on the most important mountain glaciers on Earth with the aim of disseminating the effects of climate change thanks to the observation of the variations of glacial masses over the last 150 years.
The project, based on photographic comparison, brings with it a strong communicative power. This, combined with the results of scientific research, represents a contribution to the development of greater awareness regarding the impact of human activities on the climate.
Fabiano Ventura , director of the project, and Riccardo Scotti , glaciologist of the Lombardy glaciological service, will talk with the journalist Gian Luca Gasca and Anna Ferrino .

About On the trail of the glaciers
On the Trails of the Glaciers is a project that analyzes the effects of climate change by combining photographic comparison and scientific research. Born from an idea by the Roman photographer Fabiano Ventura, the project is organized in expeditions directed to the most important mountain glaciers on the planet with the aim of carrying out glaciological analyses and photographing the glacial masses from the same points where, at the end of the nineteenth century, some of the most important photographer-explorers of the period positioned their cameras.
The purpose of the activity is to raise public awareness on the effects of climate change through a very strong communication method such as photographic comparison. The hope is that this can help in understanding the need to safeguard natural resources for future generations.
Communication objectives
Combining in an original and innovative way scientific research, comparative photography and dissemination, the project intends to communicate to a wide audience:
- The importance of sustainable development and the protection of natural resources, particularly water;
- The importance of biodiversity;
- The role of scientific research in developing knowledge and awareness of environmental issues;
- The recovery and valorization of a historical cultural heritage such as photographic archives.
