Always alongside those who operate in emergency situations, even in this period of Health Emergency, we are committed to the construction of field hospitals.

Ferrino is mainly known for its outdoor equipment for mountain and mountaineering enthusiasts, a companion in small and large endeavors in every corner of the earth.
Right now we want to tell you about a lesser-known part of our activity, which we are particularly proud of because it allows us to achieve a very important result, supporting those who work on the front lines in emergency response, helping to save human lives, providing assistance and shelter to populations affected by disastrous events.

A LONG HISTORY OF COLLABORATIONS

In 150 years of activity, Ferrino has developed a great know-how in designing and producing tents and emergency products.
There are many national and international humanitarian organizations with which we collaborate and which use our products in relief operations, from the Ministry of the Interior to the Italian Civil Protection, through some important United Nations agencies such as Unicef, Unhcr, World Food Program, up to the Red Cross and some important NGOs such as Medecins sans Frontieres and Save the Children just to name a few. But for all those who have the task of intervening in emergency and dangerous situations it is essential to be able to count on reliable equipment.
We have a catalogue, but in most cases we prefer to create ad hoc projects, which respond to the requests of those who work in the field, scrupulously analysing their needs, taking advantage of previous experiences, in a process that involves our technicians and designers and our client's team. This proven method, combined with an attentive assistance and maintenance service, allows us to respond promptly to their challenges and to aim for continuous evolution, to win together the most important challenge: that of solidarity.

COVID-19
In this tragic phase of the pandemic, all our efforts are therefore concentrated on this sector, trying to respond quickly and promptly to the requests that come to us from the organizations involved in the emergency and on the internal production that is working on the packaging of the tents that are currently used outside the hospitals to carry out an initial screening on patients arriving at the Emergency Room, so as to be able to channel them into the right flows before allowing them to access the hospital structure.
In this period of global emergency we are building a field hospital for the crisis unit of the ASL of Cuneo which normally uses it in international scenarios: 18 tents with protected connecting paths, equipped with shade sheets and electrical systems, designed to reproduce an entire hospital structure: triage, waiting room, pre-operative and operating room, birth room, X-ray laboratory, mortuary, as well as dormitories with internal rooms with beds, bathrooms and showers. Its twin is currently operating in Mozambique.

UNICEF

We have recently developed two important projects for Unicef. The new Staff Accommodation with a fully equipped living and office module and the new Unicef High Performance Tent , of which we are particularly proud, the result of a long and demanding study and field testing phase. A stimulating co-design from which a new type of tent was born, made in 3 sizes of 24, 48 and 72 m2 that Unicef will use mainly as a school tent, but also for other emergency uses, such as a hospital tent. The tent was designed and field tested to overcome some of the limitations of existing tents both from a functional point of view with great habitability and brightness, and from a climatic point of view with modular solutions suitable for hot, cold or particularly windy climates in any part of the world. It has also been optimized in terms of ease of transport with the components divided into rigid units that can also be transported by air but inside which the contents are placed in hand-movable bags for 2 people weighing up to 50 kg.

The entire project is documented in this video:
