ALEX TXIKON TELLS HIS WINTER CONQUEST OF MANUSLU

Friday 17 March at 20:00 - Nuovo Flaminia Shopping Centre – Via Sorelle Ambrosetti 10, Brescia

The series of evenings “ Face to Face with the Greats of Sport ” returns to Brescia to talk about the winter mountaineering of Alex Txikon , the Basque mountaineer and Ferrino ambassador, who reached the summit of Manaslu last January 6th.

The peak, 8,163 meters, was conquered together with Nepalese climbers Tenjen Lama Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Mingtemba Sherpa, Chhepal Sherpa, Pemba Tasi Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa.
The conquest of Manaslu for Alex Txikon, born in 1981, and his Nepalese companions represents the first ascent carried out entirely in winter and the second in the coldest season, after the one accomplished in 1984 by the Poles Maciej Berbeka and Ryszard Gajewski who, however, began the expedition in autumn.
For Alex Txikon this is the second Himalayan peak in winter, after the conquest of Nanga Parbat in 2016 with Simone Moro and Ali Sadpara.
This year's success on Manaslu is the fulfillment of a dream for the Basque mountaineer who fell in love with winter climbs, to which he has dedicated the last cold seasons between Everest and K2.
The expedition to Manaslu 2023 began with Simone Moro who, due to health problems, had to give up, and saw a change in strategy by the Basque mountaineer that allowed him to arrive at Manaslu already acclimatized to the high altitude and ready to take advantage of the first window of favorable weather.
Txikon and his companions completed the ascent and descent in less than 60 hours, a record time for a winter climb of an 8,000 meter peak.
Alex Txikon's comment: "It was one of the hardest and most dangerous experiences of my professional career and it required incredible physical and mental strength. Especially in the first part the mountain was in worse conditions than I thought. Temperatures dropped to -45º, and wind gusts reached 50 km per hour.
It's hard for people to get an idea of what these conditions are like: even the water in the canteens we carried between our chests and our down jackets was freezing, something that had never happened to me before!"

In this historic undertaking, Ferrino was alongside Alex Txikon and his companions with the Colle Sud model tents, used at the base camp, the Sbowbound 3 high altitude tents for the high camps, the Instinct line backpacks, ultra-light and built in Dyneema® Composite Fabric, Cordura® Nylon and SuperFabric® reinforcements.

The evening “The winter Manaslu 2023 and other stories” is organized by DF Sport Specialist and Ferrino, with the presence of Luca Calvi, in the role of presenter and translator.
