Ferrino welcomes Alex Txikon to its Team, the collaboration starts with the upcoming AX Road To Himalayas 19-20 expedition
The Italian outdoor company will provide backpacks, tents and camping equipment to support the mountaineer in the extreme conditions of the expedition to Antarctica and Everest.
Ferrino, a leading Italian company in the outdoor sector, will sponsor Alex Txikon and his team starting from the 2019/2020 winter expedition to Antarctica and the Himalayas, providing the technical equipment necessary to complete the feat.
XMT backpacks from the Ferrino High Lab mountaineering line, large and extremely robust, will be supplied to Alex and his team, together with various models of expedition tents, each of which has been evaluated by Alex with extreme care and chosen for use in the various camps that will host the mountaineer and his team in their attempt to climb Everest in winter.
“We are happy and honored – says Anna Ferrino , CEO – to welcome a great mountaineer like Alex Txikon into our team of brand ambassadors, continuing the tradition that for 150 years has linked our company to the most authoritative names in the mountains, with whom we have always worked side by side with great passion, providing them with tents designed to withstand the most extreme weather conditions and helping them make possible feats never accomplished before. This is not a debut for Ferrino in the world of winter Himalayan mountaineering, our material has been regularly used by legendary Polish expeditions and in 2017 we supported the Polish winter expedition to K2 led by Krzystof Wielicki. Today we are honored to be alongside Txikon and his team in the attempt to climb Everest in winter, the first chapter of a partnership that we hope will be long and fruitful, as it is very much in line with Ferrino's values: exploration, high quality standards, attention to the environment and an ethical and responsible approach”.
About Alex Txikon
Alex Txikon was born in Lemona (Basque Country) in 1981, the youngest of 13 siblings. It was one of his brothers who introduced him to mountaineering as soon as he could walk: at just three years old, Alex climbed Gorbea in the Basque Country. Similarly, he was only 21 when he reached the summit of his first eight-thousander: Broad Peak (8,051 m) in Pakistan. To date, at 38 years old, Alex has been a member of more than 30 expeditions, has summited 11 of the "14 eight-thousanders" - the 14 mountains that exceed 8,000 m in the world - and, in the last decade, has specialized in high-altitude expeditions during the fierce Himalayan winter.
In fact, he is the only climber to lead winter expeditions every year since 2011. In 2016, together with Pakistani Ali Sadpara and Italian Simone Moro, Alex Txikon achieved the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m). Since then, he has attempted winter ascents of Everest (2017 and 2018) and K2 in 2019. On December 14 this year, Alex will set off on a three-week sailing, skiing and mountaineering adventure in the Antarctic Peninsula. Then, in January 2020, he will be ready to return to the Himalayas in the depths of winter.
