BIO & MOUNTAINEERING CAREER
Alex Txikon, born in Lemona (Basque Country) in 1981, is the youngest of 13 siblings.
It was one of his brothers who introduced him to mountaineering as soon as he could walk. At just three years old, Alex climbed Gorbea (1481 m) in the Basque Country. At 21 he reached the summit of his first eight-thousander, Broad Peak (8051 m, Karakorum), falling madly in love with the very high altitude.
Today he can boast 11 of the 14 highest mountains on Earth in his resume, including the historic first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat (8125 m, Himalaya). Winter at very high altitudes fascinates him and pushes him every year to return to the Himalayan giants in search of a new climb. For this reason he has spent the last cold seasons on Everest and K2. Special expeditions characterized by a mature environmental awareness of Txikon. In his base camps we find igloos, stations for meteorological monitoring and teams of researchers intent on studying the state of health of the Himalayan ice.
